Tim Virgin Portrait Studies

To freshen up the billboard advertising for 101WKQX, I proposed introducing some illustration to help set the radio station apart visually from its competitors. The Programming Department wanted to focus the creative on its afternoons disc jockey Tim Virgin.

Below, are a couple of my portrait studies, one of which was influenced by the great illustrative work created by Oliver Barrett.

Study #1:

This study is a loose, sketchy pen drawing, fitting for an Alternative Rock radio station. Created using the Procreate app on my iPad Pro.

Style Inspiration:

This billboard was designed and illustrated by Oliver Barrett. I thought this particular aesthetic would also be fitting for an Alternative Rock radio station in Chicago, so I set out to model my next study after this particular “look & feel”
